The vision that inspires the efforts of the Boston Cluster is derived from and driven by a recognition of the transformative power of the Revelation of Baha’u’llah on individuals, communities, and institutions. “...Every effort made by the friends to systematically propagate the divine teachings traces its origins to the forces set in motion in the Divine Plan” established by Abdu’l-Baha and continues today in the Plans of the Universal House of Justice. The chief aim of the current Plan is, “to initiate a process for building capacity within the cluster through which its inhabitants, prompted by a wish to contribute to the spiritual and material well-being of their communities, are enabled to begin offering acts of service”. There are four primary activities which constitute the core of community life: children’s classes, junior youth groups, study circles, and devotional gatherings.

These activities are being advanced throughout the cluster by ever-expanding groups of friends (nuclei), who maintain a “sustained focus on nurturing growth and building capacity, and who are distinguished by their ability and their discipline to reflect on action and learn from experience.” Boston’s cluster agencies seek to advance the work of nuclei across “two dimensions of the growth process, namely, to nurture ‘endeavours undertaken by believers across the cluster as their circumstances permit’ and at the same time to foster ‘community-building efforts in small settings of heightened receptivity’.” Experience indicates that, for the process of growth to be sustained and advanced, both dimensions or prongs must be given equal attention by the cluster agencies. Within each of these spheres the Training Institute is at the heart of the process. Mindful of this, the cluster agencies strive to nurture more and more nuclei in their endeavors, create spaces for reflection which raise vision, accompany friends in the field in their efforts to multiply activities, and ensure that every activity is connected to a larger process of learning.
